NAFTA Newt gutted our nation's manufacturing base with his dogmatic endorsement of NAFTA and other job killing "Free Trade" treaties.
He is another Juan McCain. His Hispandering is a LOSING issue.
His DeeDee Scozzafava endorsement alone makes him unelectable
Yes, the utility saves money by not having to send someone to read your meter. That, however is not the ultimate agenda. We already have the smart meter. You can see your consumption online. Big Brother knows moment to moment how much electricity you are using. That has hit a nerve with privacy advocates. The real agenda, however is to get people to time shift. TIME-OF-USE PRICING! It might not come right away, but it will eventually. We have a three tier price schedule already. For example, I pay twice as much for electricity (winter) from 11:00 am to 5:00pm than I do from 7:00pm to 7:00am. They train you to alter your behavior via price.
In theory, the government of Ontario will not have to build as many power plants if they can penalize you into (for example) doing your laundry at night. Yes, you can bet that this is your future. The smart meter knows!
